A New Perspective on Security – Being “Taken Care Of”
We live in a society that has taught us:
* to ‘work hard’ for what we want
* you don’t get something for nothing
* there’s no free lunch
* save for a ‘rainy day’
* don’t play until your work (chores) are done, etc.
Even in today’s culture, Men are still taught that their ‘worth’ or value is based on their income and how well they provide for their family. Women are taught to ‘catch’ a good man, i.e. someone who will provide for them. (And they better ‘look good enough’ to get a good one!)
We are taught that to be ‘successful’ we need to
* Own our home
* Have money in the bank
* Drive a nice car
* Pay for our children’s college, etc.
There is a lot of pressure in our lives to achieve “success”.
I have basically been single and self supporting since I finished high school. I confess to sometimes dreaming of a “Prince Charming” to appear in my life and “take care of me” financially.
